About us
Challenging perception of artistic vision
BlindArt is a charitable organisation based in the UK whose aim is to encourage participation and interaction of the visually impaired in the sighted domain of the visual arts.
BlindArt promotes artists; both sighted and visually impaired, to showcase their work through competitions, exhibitions, fairs, shows and private commissions.
We find and fund a permanent collection of multi-sensory artwork, which is accessible to everyone, both physically and emotionally.
We promote awareness of the needs of the visually impaired audience.
We challenge artists; both visually impaired and sighted, to take a fresh perspective to artwork.
BlindArt’s inaugural project; Sense and Sensuality, was a nationwide open competition, which culminated in an exhibition in March 2005 at the Royal College of Art. The competition was open to all artists; blind, partially sighted and sighted, to create work specifically accessible to the visually impaired audience. This exhibition will be an annual event organised by BlindArt.
This inaugural exhibition was the starting point in establishing the world’s first collection of art created with an entirely new perspective, where vision plays an equal role to the other four senses in art appreciation.
